While perusing the interwebs for Assassin’s Creed news, I was delighted to find this article on Enzo Volante (volantedesign) and his amazing Assassin’s Creed-inspired hoodies. Check it out!

UbiWorkshop has released a new teeshirt design to make the wait until October 30/31 a little more bearable, or at least fashionable.

Available in red or in charcoal, the teeshirt is sold for $19.99 USD and is expected to ship in June.

AC: Encyclopedia Second Edition: The Big Update

Let’s talk about the Encyclopedia second edition as some of you seem to have tons of questions about this one. Here are some of the most recurring questions we got recently:

“If the new edition has 80 new pages why don’t you release a 80 page booklet so the people who own the first edition can update their edition?”

We thought about that for a long time, we played with tons of ideas but none worked. The main reason is that it’s not only 80 new additional pages we’re releasing: We’ll have to update a lot of articles that are core to the first edition as well.

If you have the encyclopedia right next to you, open it up and look at the table of contents and more precisely at the first section: “Factions”.

We’ll have to update articles like “The Assassin Order” or “History of the Organisation” because as you can guess tons of new things are going to be unveiled in ACIII.

Same thing with the Characters Section: as you can guess the Desmond Miles article will get new content as well. Assassin’s Creed The Chain is also releasing this year, and as the producer I can guarantee you that we’ll have to update Daniel Cross and Orelov’s articles as well. And all this is also true for visuals. I’m looking at some of them as I write this, please believe me when I say you don’t want to miss that.

So as you have already understood, we can’t release 80 new pages and expect you to be happy because we would also have to include all the updated articles resulting in a strange mix of articles jumping from one section to another with no consistency whatsoever: Not really up to our standards.

If one day we have a digital version that we can update on the fly then it’ll be another story, but right now we haven’t.

“I want to know more about the 80 new pages to help me decide if it’s worth it to buy the 2012 edition (i.e the guy already own the first edition)”

New content will be spread across the entire book as previously mentioned but we can’t be more specific about the content…for now.

The main reason is it would spoil huge parts of things that are yet to be announced. As soon as some topics go public we will be able to update you on how we’re covering the subjects but be assured about one thing, the encyclopedia is going to deeply cover ACIII (and AC: The Chain of course).

We work all year long in the same building than all production teams, we’re not going to miss anything important, and you’ll get never seen before concept arts…stay tuned for more info as soon as we can.
Also we just hired a new writer for this encyclopedia, a historian specialised in American history. Need I say more?

So reading this you might ask “What can you tell us then?” In a nutshell:

- This time the book will be hardcover
- The carte blanche will be directly included into the books and it will include both new cartes blanches and the ones already published in the White Edition (so if you missed them because you had the Encyclopedia black edition this is your chance to see them)
- The regular final price will be $49.95 but you get a $10 discount if you pre-order now ($39.95 here)
- We have (small) surprises we can’t really disclose yet (yeah I know, I’m cheating, considering the question)

Oh looks like you do have a final question “Wait a minute am I going to pre-order the encyclopedia to discover later on that it is included in a collector edition of ACIII?”

This is a tricky (and very relevant) question. As most of you have probably already understood we are not in charge of deciding what collector includes what and where. Ubisoft has a European office and a North American Office and both decides what collector they want to release on their respective territories.

The collector editions of AC3 are unannounced yet so I can’t really speak about them (or they will put a price on my head) but I can tell you that there will be no official collector edition including the Encyclopedia.

Being aware of what they are cooking for you, let me add that it’s very cool.

Conclusion:
Considering we’re sold out so often (I’m sure you realized that) if you know for sure that you want the encyclopedia 2012 edition, pre-order it now.

PS: Oh and by the way, we have lowered the price of the remaining AC Encyclopedia first edition (French version, the English version is sold out) to $29.95.
